Establish Dimension Members
This tips paper makes the assumption that the developer understands the basic concepts of dimension management and properties that can be used in the consolidation process. Here we show the basic kinds of accounts one needs. Numbers for the accounts have not been used to facilitate generic thinking. Your account numbers of course will vary. The key property here is DIMLIST2 which allows us to create a simple BPC set of rules referencing a large number of accounts more quickly by using this grouping. In addition, we use the account type property to control contra accounts so that we can enter all values as simple positive numbers.
Hierarchy structure and other information is not critical to the initial calculation of values. Various strategies for the structure of, most importantly, the flow dimension can create alternative approaches to completing this kind of application in an alternative way.
figure 5. The Account Dimension
Of some note for accountants will be the contra accounts of BUYERINVPR and BUYERCOGSPR. By making these settings you will see later that we have more options for solving our profit in inventory management process using some creative ideas about dimension parent structure.
Figure 6. The Flow Dimension
The same concepts will later apply to the Flow dimension as we structure and restructure our hierarchy to produce the best desired results we can. In the end, solid understanding of accounting, the flow dimension, hierarchy structure as may relate to reports and input schedules along with some tricks of the trade in multiple expansions could yield a result that requires no use of advance logic. In short, understand how dimensions work and can be manipulated to achieve a result.
